The journal follows a continuous online publication model (Online First), whereby articles are published individually immediately after the completion of the peer review, acceptance, and copy-editing processes. Upon publication, each article is assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI), as well as its final volume, issue, and page numbers. Articles published Online First represent the final Version of Record and are immediately fully citable.
Articles are continuously published in the Online First section and are assigned to a designated volume and issue upon publication. The journal organizes published articles into one volume per year, comprising two issues. Each issue is finalized biannually in April (No. 1) and October (No. 2), after which the complete issue is also released in print form.
In addition to regular issues, the journal may publish special issues dedicated to specific research themes. Special issues are published within the journal’s regular volume structure and follow the same editorial, peer-review, and ethical standards as regular issues.
The journal intends to publish special issues in the future to further enrich its scholarly contributions.
Special issues are an integral part of our journal's commitment to disseminating cutting-edge research and fostering academic discourse. These issues consist of a collection of articles centered on a specific theme or topic within the journal's scope. Special issues aim to highlight recent advancements, provide in-depth analyses, and address emerging trends within the chosen subject area. By focusing on specific topics, special issues foster discussion, deepen understanding, and advance knowledge within the scientific community.
Objectives and Benefits of Special Issues include:
Consolidated knowledge: Special Issues serve as comprehensive collections dedicated to a specific topic, bringing together the latest research, emerging methodologies, and key developments across related sub-disciplines or new cross-disciplinary applications.
Focused research and innovation: By concentrating contributions within a defined thematic scope, Special Issues enable deeper scientific exploration, foster collaboration among experts, and stimulate innovation in rapidly evolving research areas.
Promotion of collaboration: Special Issues encourage cooperation among researchers, institutions, and industry partners, facilitating interdisciplinary dialogue and the exchange of ideas.
Highlighting emerging trends: They provide a platform to showcase current advances, novel approaches, and transformative technologies shaping the future of the field.
Enhanced visibility and impact: Thematic collections attract higher readership and citation potential, increasing the visibility of both the contributing authors and the journal.
Support for academic communities: Special Issues help strengthen specific research communities by providing a dedicated venue for sharing results, establishing standards, and identifying future research directions.
Promotion and outreach: Featured visibility on the journal’s website, social media platforms, and in dedicated promotional campaigns highlighting the Special Issue.
Best Paper Award: Eligible submissions may be considered for the Best Paper of the Special Issue recognition, granted based on scientific quality, originality, and impact. The award includes a digital certificate, public acknowledgment on the journal’s website and social media, and an additional privilege — a 100% APC waiver for one future submission by the corresponding author to a regular issue of the journal.
Networking opportunities: Engagement with editors, reviewers, and international researchers, fostering future collaborations and joint research initiatives.
Proposal and Procedures
Special Issues are typically initiated and managed by two or three Special Issue Editors. The term “Special Issue Editors” refers collectively to Editors (members of the Editorial Team) and Guest Editors (recognized external experts) formally appointed to manage a Special Issue. They operate under the oversight of the Editor-in-Chief or a designated member of the Editorial Team and follow the same peer review and editorial standards as regular issues.
Proposals may stem from conferences, workshops, or collaborations among researchers. The process involves:
Proposal Submission:
Evaluation:
Call for Articles:
Peer Review:
Proposals should maintain a balance between a sufficiently broad scope to attract diverse submissions and a focused thematic direction to ensure coherence and depth. Each proposal must be prepared using the Special Issue Proposal Form and submitted to the Editor-in-Chief at info@setjournal.com.
Special Issue Editors: Selection, Responsibilities, and Benefits
Special Issue Editors are formally appointed by the Editor-in-Chief based on their subject-matter expertise, academic credentials, and demonstrated professional integrity. The selection process ensures that each appointed Special Issue Editor possesses the qualifications necessary to uphold the journal’s editorial standards and ethical principles.
Minimum qualifications include:
A doctoral degree (Ph.D.) or equivalent in a relevant field.
Proven research expertise demonstrated through publications, project leadership, or recognized contributions to the discipline.
Editorial or peer-review experience, such as serving as a reviewer, editorial board member, or editor for reputable journals or conferences.
Recognition and standing within the academic or professional community, reflected through citations, awards, or institutional affiliations.
Special Issue Editors’ Responsibilities:
Special Issue Editors play a central role in maintaining the scientific quality, integrity, and relevance of the Special Issue. Their primary responsibilities include:
Propose the theme and scope: Propose the topic, objectives, and scope of the Special Issue in alignment with the journal’s overall aims and areas of focus.
Attracting high-quality submissions: Invite and encourage contributions from a diverse range of authors and institutions to ensure the issue reflects global research perspectives.
Supervising the peer review process: Identify and invite qualified independent reviewers and oversee the review workflow in accordance with the journal’s Peer Review Policy, ensuring that each manuscript receives a fair, unbiased, and timely evaluation.
Upholding publication ethics: Support compliance with the journal’s Publication Ethics, by promoting transparency in the editorial process, identifying and disclosing potential conflicts of interest, and adhering to established ethical standards, in coordination with the Editor-in-Chief or a designated Editor.
Enhancing scholarly impact: Collaborate with authors during the review and revision process to improve the clarity, scientific rigor, and overall contribution of the Special Issue.
While Special Issue Editors oversee the peer review process and provide recommendations regarding the acceptance or rejection of submissions within a Special Issue, final editorial decisions are made by the Editor-in-Chief or by a Special Issue Editor who is a member of the Editorial Team and formally appointed by the Editor-in-Chief. Also, responsibility for ethical oversight, conflict of interest management, complaints, and appeals rests with the Editor-in-Chief.
Special Issue Editors’ Benefits:
Submission Guidelines and Policies
Authors submitting to a special issue must adhere to the journal’s submission policies. All submissions will be managed online via the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform and undergo rigorous peer review. For more details please refer to the Author Guidelines.
All articles submitted to the Special Issue are subject to the same Peer Review Policy and Publication Ethics guidelines as regular submissions.
Special Issues may include editorial articles authored by the Special Issue Editors. These editorials introduce the thematic scope and relevance of the issue and outline the motivation behind the selected contributions. As non-research articles, editorials are not subject to external peer review but are formally reviewed and approved by the Editor-in-Chief to ensure compliance with the journal’s editorial and ethical standards.
Additional Notes
Exclusivity of Special Issue Proposals: Special Issue proposals must be exclusive and submitted solely to the Science, Engineering and Technology Journal. A proposal may not be submitted to or considered by any other journal until a final decision has been made by the Editorial Office.
Consistency with Journal Policies: The peer review process, publication ethics, open access licensing, copyright, and repository policies for Special Issues are fully consistent with those applied to regular issues of the journal. Any violation of ethical or editorial standards may lead to the cancellation of the Special Issue by the Editor-in-Chief. However, articles already accepted for publication will be included in a regular issue, provided that the authors are not responsible for the breach of standards that led to the cancellation.
Timeline: The timeline for the Special Issue will be jointly agreed upon between the Special Issue Editors and the Editor-in-Chief and clearly communicated on the journal’s website to ensure transparency and predictability for all contributors. A submission window of approximately six (6) months is recommended.
Special issues enable the journal to address emerging trends and foster collaboration across disciplines. By offering a platform for focused research, we aim to advance scholarly discourse and contribute meaningfully to the scientific community.
